There are two ways to navigate via laser triangulation using reflective targets placed throughout a warehouse/manufacturing facility.
The first is a phase based approach where a continually on, rotating laser will detect the signal intensity change as the laser passes over the reflective material. This produces excellent bearing readings to the rising or falling edge of the reflective target.
The second way is to use a time of flight laser. Whilst this doesn't detect the edges of the targets very well. it has very good range measuring capability.
Combining both lasers into a single scanner, we can achieve the best of both devices and hence the most accurate navigation tool possible. It is also possible to "self survey" the reflectors and add them to the map as the vehicle drives round.
